Item: Vintage 1940’s Hurd Super Caster Metal Fishing Rod, Reel with Walnut Wooden Handle, Vinyl Case with Working Zipper

Description:

• Hurd Super Caster Fishing Metal Rod and Reel with Walnut Wooden Handle.
• Vinyl Case with Working Zipper.
• Made in Detroit, Michigan.
• These were made for two years 1945 and 1946 before switching to plastic reels.
• Rod Size: Approximately 48″ in length.
• Reel Size: Approximately 10.5″ in length.
• Case Size: Approximately 53″ in length.
• Weight: Estimated combined weight will be over 5 pounds when packaged to protect from bending.
• Materials:
  • Rod – The rod is made of metal and has three glass eyelets in excellent condition.
  • Reel – The reel has a walnut wooden handle with diamond etching. The walnut wooden handles were made for two years (1945-1946) before being switched to a plastic handled reel.
• Date: The Hurd Super Caster Metal Fishing Rod and Reel was made between 1945-1946.
• Production of the Hurd Super Caster Metal Fishing Rod and Reel was discontinued in 1951.
• Condition: Excellent Condition.

Description:

• Artist: Jorge Corona Guillen.
• Pueblo: Mata Ortiz.
• Tribal Art: New Casas Grande/Paquime of northern Mexico.
• Size: Small (approximately 3.5″ ).
• Weight: A few ounces,  estimated weight.
• Materials:
  • Clay – The clay is dug up locally by villagers from around the pueblo.
  • Paints – The paints are formed from natural colored minerals that are native to the nearby mountains.
  • The brushes used to paint the pottery are specially made from human hair.
  • This pottery is entirely hand-made, hand-coiled, hand-burnished, hand-painted, and fired in dung-fueled earthen pit fires.
  • Each piece is created individually. No pieces are ever exactly alike.
• Date: Exact date unknown. Discovered in 1960’s.
• Condition: Excellent Condition.
